Born Free trainer cups are great Mar 26, 2008
By M. Ellis I have never rated anything on Amazon before despite being a frequent purchaser, but because this product has (I think unjustly) gotten negative reviews from other people, I had to respond. The Born Free "Trainer Cup" DOES NOT leak. I think those people who said it does leak must have purchased the Born Free "Drinking Cup" that looks almost identical to the trainer cup. I almost didn't buy this product because of the negative reviews, but because I have twin boys who are 8 months old and we have been so happy with the Born Free bottles (despite their expense), I thought I would give these a try. My boys are very rough on the Born Free Trainer Cups and we haven't had a leaking/spillage problem. The most amazing thing about the spout is that once my boys tried it (and this is true for both of them), they didn't want to go back to the bottle nipples! It's spouts from now on. Now here's a money saving tip for those of you who already invested into the Born Free bottles - you can interchange the spout from the trainer cup with the bottle nipple. Just make sure to put the bottle together with all the pieces as you normally would, except pull the trainer spout through where you would normally pull the nipple. Since you can purchase a pack of two spouts separate from the bottles for $6 or $7, I would recommend that those of you who already have the Born Free bottles to purchase the trainer cup spouts separately to start with and see if your babies like to drink from them. If they do, and once you feel they are ready to hold their own trainer cup, then you can invest in purchasing some cups as well. I don't like paying the high prices either, but there are ways to save money and my boys really really liked the bottles (and now the trainer cups), plus I feel like this is a good company to purchase from as their products are bpa free.

Great sippy cup- NO leaks! Mar 20, 2008
By C. Gallagher We have the Born Free TRAINER cup for our now 9 month old daughter. We bought it when she was 7 months and she is finally holding it and tipping it up to drink on her own. It's not difficult for our daughter to suck water out as other sippy cups can be, and it's safe. It does NOT leak, and believe me, we'd know if it did because it's upside down more than it's right side up! :) I think there is some confusion over the drinking cup versus the trainer cup. They look the same but the drinking cup has a free flow spout, where as the trainer cup does not leak at all!

Fabulous cup if you know about the spout May 03, 2008
By Kat Lover I purchased this cup for my then 9 month old son and at first it did leak all over the place. I then switched out the spout for a 6+ month spout and suddenly the leaking completely stopped. If you use the hard spout that comes with the cup, you will have mega leaking like another reviewer stated. If you buy the soft spout, however, you will have absolutely no problems at all with this cup. Definitely a must have for any toddler. My 13 month old cannot live without this cup.

Threw mine away ... Jul 28, 2009
By Sunny My trainer cup came in the Born Free Gift Box that had the Born Free 9-Ounce Wide Neck BornFree Bottles Twin Pack, Born Free BPA Free Wide Neck Bottles - 5-Ounce Twin Pack, etc. I love the other bottles but the blue trainer cup didn't work for me.
Before I opened the Born Free Trainer cup, I already purchased the Gerber Soft Spout Two-Handle Spill-Proof Cup - 2 Pk. I liked the taste of the water and the spout had water coming out at a good rate. My daughter was ok with it too.
I then opened the Born Free Trainer cup and my daughter hated it. I tasted the water and it was horrible. There was a strong plastic smell to it.
My husband put me through a blind taste test and compared the Gerber vs. Born Free. As soon as I tasted the Born Free I had to spit out the water because it tasted so horribly. I'm glad I didn't put any juice into the bottle yet otherwise it would have masked the horrible taste.
So before you give your baby this trainer bottle, taste test it with water first.
I did keep the sippy spout and the handle and placed it on the 9 ounce Born Free bottle. The sippy spout flowed way to slow. It didn't spill, but nothing much came out of it either. At the moment, the only part I'm using out of the trainer cup is just the handle. My daughter is holding the 9 ounce born free bottle by herself now thanks to that handle.
But all things considered the Born Free blue trainer cup was a HUGE disappointment. I threw away all 3 bottles that I owned.

The worst of both worlds Jan 20, 2010
By Jeny Staiman How is it possible that this sippy cup leaks so badly, while at the same time is too difficult for my 1-YO to suck liquid out of? I'm sick of her frustration at not being able to drink her milk out of this thing, and sick of getting sticky drips all over the place! It's just as bad with or without the handles under the lid. I even tried making the nipple hole larger, and poking a second hole for air release. No difference. I just threw it into the trash, because that's what it is.
