5Liam LOVES it!!!!  Oct 14, 2009
By DawnDawn "DawnDawn"
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3NEMHU38BS6BH Liam is 2 months old. We use this wash pod every night since we received it because he loves it so much. I clean his bottom and private area with his wipes before his bath... and let him soak in warm water with some baby soap in it.

5An amazing bonding experience  Apr 12, 2008
By Mom2Lucabella
I was excited when I saw the washPOD in a magazine ad, there wasn't a place to purchase it locally so I did so online. The first time we bathed our daughter in the washPOD, it was amazing- she was only a week old, there as no screaming as we had experienced with our oldest. Quite the opposite, her eyes lite up and she look around amazed and happy. It was a bit awkward at first, but as she grew and I got more accustomed it proved to be a wonderful bonding experience. There were many nights when she would become fussy, that I just put her in the washPOD and it soothed her so that she could fall asleep more easily. I'm only sorry that at 7 months it seems she has outgrown it. Try it, be patient, you won't be disappointed.

2Mixed bucket  Jul 11, 2010
By N. Barkus "NYBarkus"
PROS:

size - Relatively small so uses very little water, and doesn't take up much space in our small apartment

contented baby - Our baby is happy at bathtime in the pod, he's four months old and 16 lbs, and still fits well. However, we never tried a different bath so we don't know if the pod is the reason for his comfort

inexpensive - compared to an infant bath tub this is definitely cheaper

CONS:

Plastic smell - When I opened it, it had a terribly strong chemical smell, ESPECIALLY the little pad. I am glad I opened it before the baby arrived because it needed to be washed and aired out literally for weeks to make the smell go away. Not a good first impression.

head control issues - there's nothing supporting your baby's head, you must have your hand on it at all times in such a way that you're controlling the weight and keeping it from going in any direction. This is really hard to do one-handed. So you really could use two hands for head control, hence my wife and I tended to always do bath time together; one holds, one washes. Every time I gave him a bath alone, I wished I had a nice reclining bath tub so at least the weight of his head would be safely supported.

After he gained head control it got easier, however you still have to keep a hand on it since babies who can't sit up on their own will of course suddenly pitch forward or back, but that is easier to control.

Reaching the diaper area - Difficult at best. Imagine changing a diaper on a baby that you're holding sitting up. It is possible but why would you? Their legs are folded up and you can't get into all the folds and crevices without lifting the baby so you can move his/her legs around to get behind the knees, etc. Lifting a wet baby one handed is a very bad idea, so again you need two people. Plus you're reaching into the water with your soap to reach the undercarriage, so you're losing a lot of soap into the water, which brings me to....

Rinsing the baby - if you want to get the soap off, you have to have rinse water ready in a separate container, (we used a large kitchen measuring cup) And then you have to lift the baby out of the water to rinse them while holding them. Again, one person cannot do this very well at all. I managed a few times but it didn't feel very secure. And if you don't do it fast, they get cold.

CONCLUSION: I feel there are several reasons I wouldn't buy this again.

As far as the pros I appreciate that it needs very little water, but the space-saving issues aren't all that valuable, since a regular tub can be stood up on end and then takes up about the same floorspace as this bucket.

I would only recommend this if your baby isn't comfortable/secure in a normal infant/newborn bath tub or you're happy having bath time always be a two-adult job. As we never used one of the normal tubs, we don't know if he would have tolerated it.

Finally, he's about to outgrow the wash tub but he isn't ready for the bath chair we have, so we're going to have to find something else to tide us over. It'll probably be an infant tub, so now I doubly wish I had just bought an infant tub from the beginning.

5happy baby, happy mom  Sep 30, 2008

Yes, it's a $30 bucket. But it's a NICE bucket, with a squishy little seat for baby's bottom and slanted sides so the baby can see out. Handy little handles make it easy to lift it from the tub to the counter, and I like that it doesn't need a lot of water.

My sister in law sent this to us, and when I opened the box I laughed and thought "what is this?" Then baby arrived and we tried it out. Now we're converts! My 3-mo old loves it. If she's having a rough evening, cranky and crabby and out of sorts, we just give her a bath. She settles in and splashes and likes looking at herself in the mirror. She seems to be very secure, warm and cozy in it, which is great. I have to lift her up to wash her bottom and legs, but that's OK. My son hated baths at this age, and I'm glad she's not stressed by the whole bathing process. I don't know what we'll do when she doesn't fit into it anymore.
