4Perfect for our needs  May 20, 2010
I waited until we had used this cradle for several months before writing this review, because I wanted to be sure it really worked out for us. Our baby is almost 3 months old now and he's slept in this cradle practically every night. What I was looking for in a cradle: safe, reasonably small size, able to use for quite a while, organic, attractive design. I looked into a lot of other options - there are multiple other cradles out there that met some of our criteria, but this was the only one that really met all of them.

What I like about the cradle:
*Seems very comfortable - judging from the fact our baby sleeps in it :)
*Fits nicely into the space we have available
*Absolutely zero doubts on my part regarding safety
*Quite sturdy & solid
*The mattress is very breathable and dries quickly if it gets damp
*Price for value - this is well designed and well built, it was worth the cost
*Assembly instructions were fairly straightforward, on par with the types of instructions you get from places like IKEA.
*The way the mattress hangs allows it to move a bit as the baby moves, which seems to be very soothing (at least for our baby)

Reasons for 4 stars instead of 5:
*The two sheets that it comes with say they are hand wash only - seriously? This is for a baby! But they've done fine in the washing machine & dryer regardless.
*Again on the sheets it comes with - the way the sheets are design with elastic all around the edge makes the mattress bow up a bit. I fixed this by sewing the elastic in four spots & snipping it on two of the sides. Still very safe and securely attached, just doesn't cause the mattress to act funky.
*There was a cosmetic mar on one of the struts, some of the wood surface was marred. It didn't bother me enough to contact the company, I just found it irritating in a product that costs this much.

While I can understand the earlier reviewer's safety concerns with respect to her toddler, for our needs this is the perfect cradle. One safety item not shown in the manufacturer's photos are the two extra anti-tipping bars. Perhaps this was a recent addition from the manufacturer? I think it may have addressed at least some of that reviewer's safety concerns.

I ended up sewing two additional sheets for the cradle because we had a few diaper leak nights in a row early on and I felt we needed a few extra sheets. Check out the Amy Butler Little Stitches book to get an idea on how to sew sheets for cribs.

2Safety questions and NOT if you have a toddler in the house  Jul 08, 2009
I really wanted to like this, but we ended up returning it. Although they tout that you can fold it when not in use, my two year old was opening and shutting it within 10 seconds of it being set up. They could have (should have) put a bar across to prevent accidental closure. I didnt want to worry about him doing that with a newborn inside. The anti-tip feature seems good though. I was also concerned that the sheet pulled the mattress under so it curled under on all four corners and did not lay flat inside the cradle- I view this is a big safety issue. The third strike was the legs- one of them had been visibly repaired and although my husband said it was a surface crack, I didnt feel comfortable with a support structure that appeared to be somewhat repaired. The legs arent solid wood and whatever wood-particleboard they used did have a smell to it, not what I was hoping for in an organic bassinet. We ended up getting an Arms Reach Mini and ordering their organic mattress.
