This natural toothpaste is so superior to the usual brands, such as colgate, crest, et al. We just love it and especially the way it makes your mouth feel. However, I also buy Trader Joe's own brand natural tooth paste (at the Trader Joe stores) and have found Trader Joe's to be every bit as good but much cheaper. So I recommend both and your final decision will come down to how much you want to spend.

Tom's Of Maine has a wide variety of toothpaste all made from Natural ingredients with various healthful benefits that all keep your mouth fresh, clean and healthy. This one, Peppermint flavored, with baking soda and calcium is great for clean teeth and uses fluoride to help in preventing cavities. Other ingredients included are water, glycerin,carageenan,xylitol,sodium laurel sulfate(from coconut oil). The box lists the purpose and source of each one. For example Carrageenan is a thickener and it's source is seaweed.
The peppermint taste is very refreshing and leaves my mouth clean and fresh feeling even between meals.It uses only a mild abrasive(calcium carbonate) and this one is accepted by the ADA for helping to prevent tooth decay.
Tom's of Maine has been around since 1970 and uses no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. A great way and natural way to keep your mouth healthy and fresh. This product may also be purchased in a single tube: Tom's of Maine - Anticavity Baking Soda Peppermint, 6 oz toothpaste if you just want to try it out.

 Beware- Not the Tom's of Maine you are used to Jan 25, 2011

I wish I had known before ordering 6 of these that not only has the logo changed, but the formulation and ingredients have changed too. This is NOT the same product that I have been loyally using. Since Colgate bought out Tom's of Maine, they have obviously decided to destroy the brand and eliminate a natural alternative to their products.
This tastes just like the other commercial brands out there- chemically and sickly sweet.
Goodbye Tom's of Maine, it was nice while it lasted. Hopefully I can find another alternative.

This took me a long time to get used but I guess it worked well. It has a strange flavor at first but over time you don't realize the taste. The good thing is it doesn't leave a bad aftertaste.

Some reviewers have posted that they bought the 6 packs and the formula was different. I buy the singles and I am sure that it is the same formula I have been using for the last 20 years.
Don't know what might have happened to the 6 packs, maybe colgate (who bought Tom's) got their packaging screwed up.
