Great Toothpaste May 06, 2010 Tom's of Maine Toothpaste
Tom's is a small company, employing fewer than two hundred people. It was founded in 1970 and then purchased by Colgate in 2006. Fortunately, Colgate has left Tom's alone to manage their business according to their original principles.
Tom's makes natural products. The toothpaste contains no sugar, sweeteners, or artificial flavoring. By contrast, I looked at a tube of Colgate toothpaste that I have on the shelf. It contains "flavor," whatever that is, "saccharine," and "propylene glycol." The last ingredient is a less-toxic form of anti-freeze. One advantage of Tom's toothpaste is that we do not have to worry about ingesting poisons when we use it.
I have been using Tom's for years. The toothpaste comes in many flavors. On Amazon, you can find Peppermint, Spearmint, Fennel, Orange-Mango, Cinnamint, Wintermint, Apricot, Soothing Mint, True Mint, and Gingermint, among others. I prefer the Peppermint flavor, which is refreshing, but not overwhelming. The toothpaste is available in sizes from 1 ounce to 6 ounces.
I do not exactly live in a wilderness area, but my local stores no longer carry Tom's. Fortunately, it can be found on Amazon and other web sites. The prices do vary from vendor to vendor, so check for the best price.
i love Tom's of Maine! Feb 03, 2010 I really like this toothpaste. It is naturally flavored and it tastes great. Was a bit worried about using something like this as I've always been one to go with one of the major brands and really bought into the hype that they had something better than something like Tom's. After using this for about six months and going to my dentist, I now know that Tom's is just as good at cleaning and keeping buildup off than anything I've used in the past. I am very happy with it and feel great about using it and doing something good for my teeth!!

Diappointed Sep 30, 2009 Although I love most Tom's products, I found this one disappointing. It's probably effective at cleaning teeth but it doesn't leave my mouth feeling fresh and minty like Crest, which I've used for 30 years. After brushing this leaves a VERY LIGHT hint of mintiness in your mouth . . . and then that fresh breath feeling is completely gone after you rinse your mouth with water or drink a glass of water. Back to Crest . . .

Excellent Toothpaste Only Equalled By Trader Joe's Natural Toothpaste Aug 23, 2009 This natural toothpaste is so superior to the usual brands, such as colgate, crest, et al. We just love it and especially the way it makes your mouth feel. However, I also buy Trader Joe's own brand natural tooth paste (at the Trader Joe stores) and have found Trader Joe's to be every bit as good but much cheaper. So I recommend both and your final decision will come down to how much you want to spend.
Great All Natural Toothpaste! Apr 02, 2009 Tom's of Maine is a great, all natural toothpaste. It gets your teeth clean and bright--my dentist actually asked me which whitening toothpaste I was using, and he was surprised when I said Tom's of Maine--without artifical ingredients or added sweeteners. Because of the lack of artifical sweetners, this toothpaste can be a bit of a shock at first because it's not sugary sweet, but after a while you won't want to go back to a toothpaste that tastes like candy! The peppermint flavor is subtle, but leaves your mouth feeling fresh. The box and the tube are also recycleble, if you are trying to be green.
I recommend Tom's of Maine to everyone I know with a warning that it takes some time to get used to this toothpaste, because it isn't sweet, but in the end they'll be happy.
