Tom's of Maine Natural Clean and Gentle SLS-Free Anticavity plus Whitening Fennel Toothpaste, the foaming properties of glycyrrhizin (from purified licorice root) replace the need for SLS (which may, for some people, occasionally be irritating) or an SLS alternative. Soothing brushing experience with added xylitol (from birch trees or corn), gentle glycerin, and organic aloe for their soothing properties. Prevents cavities, naturally sourced fluoride remineralizes soft spots on teeth before they turn into cavities, gentle whitening. Natural silica (derived from sand) improves cleaning and gently whitens without bleaching ingredients or harsh abrasives, mild natural flavor. Delicious natural flavor oils leave your mouth feeling clean and fresh.

Great Non-Irritating Toothpaste! Apr 14, 2010

I have been suffering from painful burning and tissue sloughing in my mouth for years. My dentist only told me I might be allergic to some of the ingredients in the toothpaste and to keep trying to find something comfortable...
After researching online, I found the main culprit to be SLS. There are others, but this appears to have caused my problems.
This toothpaste has been a miracle for me! No more irritation because it is SLS- free, and has a very nice taste.
I would highly recommend this toothpaste if you have any irritation when you brush. SLS is problematic because it causes excessive blood flow to the gums, and can result in gingivitis if you are sensitive to it.
It's great to have the answer I so badly needed.

love it. and it isn't harmful to people or the environment. didn't know if i would like the taste, but boy it is great. my husband thinks so too. and bonus, you can drink citrus drinks after brushing without that ... ooh, ick, yuck, make it stop...... feeling. :-)

Best toothpaste especially for canker sore suffers Nov 15, 2010

I am very pleased with this toothpaste. No SLS so it does not promote canker sore formation. And the fennel taste is great; much better than the standard mint flavors. So glad that Tom's has decided to market an SLS-free toothpaste. Cannot find in stores in my area so I will be buying from Amazon again.
